SmartBuzz Privacy Policy
Effective October 5, 2026
SmartBuzz ("the app") is a personal drink tracker that estimates blood alcohol content (BAC). This policy explains what data the app keeps, what it sends, and the choices you have. It is published by Javier Carmona ("we").
The short version
- Your profile, your drinks and your BAC estimates stay on your device, and in your own iCloud or Google backup. We never receive them.
- If "Share usage data" is enabled, the app sends anonymous usage and crash reports to Google Firebase so we can fix problems and improve the app. You can turn this off at any time in Account > Settings.
- There are no accounts, no ads, no advertising ID and no tracking across other apps or websites. We don't sell data.
Data that stays on your device
The app stores the following only on your device:
- Your profile: name, avatar colour, sex, weight, height, date of birth and how often you drink
- The drinks you log: name, type, strength (ABV), volume and time, and where you were, if you add a place
- Your sessions and history, and the BAC estimates calculated from them
- Your settings, such as units, language, theme and BAC limit
This data is used only to calculate and show your BAC estimate and history. We have no server that receives it and no way to see it. It is not included in usage or crash reports.
Your device's own backup includes this data, so it comes back when you restore or move to a new phone: iCloud Backup or an encrypted computer backup on iPhone, and Google backup or a phone-to-phone transfer on Android. Apple or Google stores these backups in your account, under your settings and their privacy policies, and we can't access them.
You can clear your drink history, or delete all data, in Account. Deleting the app also deletes this data from the device, but a copy can remain in an existing backup until that backup is replaced or deleted.
Usage and crash reports
When "Share usage data" is enabled (it is on by default), the app uses two Google services:
- Google Analytics for Firebase records how the app is used, for example which screens are opened, when onboarding is finished, when a drink or food is logged and its category (such as beer, wine or a snack), and which settings are changed. Profile changes are recorded only as "changed", never with the new value.
- Firebase Crashlytics records crash and error reports: what went wrong in the app, the screens visited just before, and the device model, operating system and app version.
These reports include a random identifier that Firebase creates for each installation of the app, so we can count users and group crashes. It isn't linked to your name or any account, and it changes if you reinstall the app. Google also derives your approximate location (such as country or region) from your IP address. It does not use your device's location services.
These reports never include your name, profile details, BAC estimates, or the names, amounts or times of your drinks.
We use these reports only to understand how the app is used, to find and fix crashes, and to decide what to improve. Google processes them on our behalf under its Firebase terms and privacy policy. Analytics event data is kept for 2 months, and crash reports for 90 days.
To turn this off, go to Account > Settings > Share usage data and turn it off. The app then stops sending usage and crash reports. Deleting all data in the app keeps your choice.
Advertising and tracking
The app shows no ads and doesn't collect your device's advertising identifier. It does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we don't sell or share your data for advertising.
Age
SmartBuzz is meant for adults of legal drinking age. Onboarding requires a date of birth of 21 or older, and the app is not directed at children.
BAC estimates
Every BAC figure in the app is an estimate. Never use it to decide whether you can drive or are fit to do anything.
Your choices and rights
- Turn usage and crash reports on or off in Account > Settings.
- Clear your history or delete all data in Account, or delete the app.
- Because the reports aren't linked to your identity, we usually can't find the ones that came from you. If you have a question or a request about your data, contact us and we'll help where we can.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, mention it in the app's release notes.
